Context:
In 2023, I spent 4 weeks in Cuba and it was the most memorable place I’ve ever visited. Not just because of the country itself, but because of the people I met.
During that trip, I brought a small recording setup with me, and together with some local musicians, we created a handful of songs. They were recorded in hotel rooms, last-minute, with limited resources, but to this day they remain some of my favourite pieces of music I’ve ever been a part of.
In October 2026, I will return to Cuba with much more planning, a proper budget, better Spanish, and bigger ambitions.
A bit about myself; my name is Jacob and I’m a 24yr old music producer from Australia. I live a nomadic lifestyle, and move around to different countries every few months while I work remotely. This lifestyle is what brought me to Cuba in 2023, and I’m lucky enough to return this year...this time to be part of a bigger, planned project!
The Plan:

I will spend 1 week in Havana, Cuba producing an EP (a collection of songs) in a local recording studio with a group of local musicians. The music will be a fusion of:
- Traditional Afro-Cuban / Jazz
- Modern Hip-Hip / RnB Vocals
At the same time, the entire process will be documented by a dedicated cameraman, capturing the creative process, the challenges, and "behind-the-scenes" experiences of making music in Cuba.
The finished product will include the EP itself, as well as longer behind-the-scenes video documenting the process.
Each recording day will involve a combination of musicians, vocalists and a cameraman, with different musicians brought in throughout the week to give the EP a variety of instruments, styles and sounds.
The exact lineup will depend on the songs we develop during the sessions and the musicians available in Havana.
The Funding
The project has now been fully funded, with the original $2,750 AUD funding goal not only reached, but EXCEEDED by 10%

100% of the project budget will go directly towards paying the Cuban musicians, vocalists and other local collaborators involved in the recording sessions.
I’ll be covering all of my own personal expenses separately, including flights, accommodation, food, transport, travel insurance and visa costs.
I also won’t be taking any royalties or financial profit from the music itself. If any residual royalties or income are generated from the music or video content after the project, they will be divided fairly amongst the Cuban artists involved.
What happens next?
With the project now fully funded, the next step is simply to make it happen.
In October, I’ll be heading to Havana to spend several days in the studio with Cuban musicians, vocalists and rappers, creating an original collection of music and documenting the entire experience along the way.
Flights, accomodation and any personal travel measures have already been booked, and planning is well underway with all musicians in Cuba getting ready for this week of music.
The finished EP and behind-the-scenes video will be shared once they’re completed.
This project has been on my mind ever since I left Cuba in 2023, and it means a lot to finally have the opportunity to return and create something more with the artists and musicians I met there.
